In the Winter of 2015, I was approached to design the identity for a new Pizzeria located about an hour outside of Austin, TX, a new venture created by Amy Simmons of Austin’s famous Amy’s Ice Creams. Randomly enough, the Pizzeria takes its name from the fictional restaurant prominent in the film ‘Hope Floats.’ In fact, Honey’s is located in the actual building used as a set for the film. The owner’s original goal was to create an identity based on the fictional restaurant’s logo, both to pay homage to the film and preserve a town icon. The problem: she wasn’t in love with the old one. To rectify a sticky situation, I adapted the painted typography above the windows of the building to create a new mark still very connected to the film’s restaurant, substituting an apostrophe with a pizza triangle for good measure.
